News of a resignation has come from the CHP, which continues to determine its mayoral candidates for the local elections.

Gürsel Tekin, who previously served as secretary-general and deputy chairman of the CHP, announced that he has resigned from the party.

Tekin, who was elected as a deputy for the CHP for 4 terms, included the following statements in a post on his personal social media account;

"To my dear nation and my fellow travelers,

The fundamental principles of the Republican People's Party are contained in its charter and program. Unfortunately, over time, the CHP has been distanced from its identity as an Ataturkist and social democratic party that aims for contemporary civilization, and has the goal of coming to power in Turkey and serving the people,

It has become a structure where there are no objective conditions, merit, or competence,

Where positions and offices are distributed through intra-party cronyism, factionalism, and team-building relationships,

Where people who have put effort into the party and worked for the party to come to power are marginalized,

Where the struggle for intra-party power is preferred over the struggle for power in Turkey,

Where party law and the rights of our party workers are ignored, where the Headquarters does not even comply with the rules and instructions it has announced itself, and where the labor of people who worked hard by trusting the party's law and statements is usurped,

It has transformed into a structure where cronyism, spouse, friend, and relative relationships are decisive at every level instead of a spirit of camaraderie formed by ideology, principles, or thought.

For me, having had the honor of serving in every position of the party and having always worked on the streets and among the people for the party to come to power in Turkey, this picture that has emerged is painful and saddening.

For this reason,

I am resigning with great sadness from the Republican People's Party, to which I have dedicated my life since my youth and whose principles I have sealed in my heart, because the principles I believe in and live for dictate this, and because I no longer have the opportunity to work within the current structure.

I will continue to work for the principles to which I have dedicated my life.

I respectfully announce this to the public."
