He announced the number of victims in the fund crisis: Özgür Özel's question to Erdoğan about Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, in his speech before the district presidency primary held in the Karesi district of Balıkesir, made evaluations on many topics ranging from access bans imposed on social media platforms to the economic situation of retirees and the recently debated fund transactions.

In a significant part of his speech, Özel included allegations regarding fund transactions. Stating that there are approximately 7 million accounts in the stock market and that 3.5 million of these belong to investors with savings of 10 thousand liras or less, Özel argued that small investors were directed to certain funds with the expectation of high returns.

Describing the events as "the fraud of the century," "the scam of the century," and "the financial trap of the century," Özel said that 450 thousand unique investors and a total of 2 million people were victimized. Özel stated that some investors turned to the market to pay off credit card debts or to protect their savings against inflation.

CALL TO ERDOĞAN

Özel also spoke about the fund transactions of AKP Deputy Chairman and former Minister of Family and Social Policies Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya. Claiming that Kaya invested 63 million liras in the fund in April and withdrew over 2 billion liras in September, Özel argued that this profit was obtained through the money of small investors.

Addressing AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan following Kaya's resignation, Özel asked, "Will you take back this nation's money, 2 billion from Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya and 1.5 billion from her husband?" Özel also stated that steps should be taken regarding other AKP members and public officials who are alleged to have traded in the fund.

Özel stated that his party has submitted a 15-article legislative proposal to Parliament regarding the fund debate. He expressed that the proposal aims to uncover the individuals who allegedly increased the fund during the closed period, opened it to small investors afterward, and caused victimization by exiting the system.

Criticizing the access bans on social media accounts in his speech, Özel addressed the platform managers, saying, "You do not derive your power from the single man at the head of this country, but from this nation using your platforms." Özel also reiterated his call for early elections to Erdoğan, saying, "If you are confident, I challenge you; come face us."
