While the defection of Aydın Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Özlem Çerçioğlu, who resigned from the CHP after 23 years of service, to the AKP continues to be debated, claims of new departures from the CHP have surfaced in political circles. While it was alleged that two more metropolitan mayors were in talks with the AKP, the name of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş was also mentioned.

The Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Press Office responded to the claims that Yavaş would join the AKP.

The statement included the following expressions:

"Public Announcement: Baseless claims are being circulated on some social media accounts. There is nothing to be taken seriously about these claims. Unfortunately, it appears that the decay in politics has reached a point where it permeates everywhere. The claims put forward are being served without even asking the subject of the news, thus becoming a part of the politics of slander. In the management approach of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş, it is essential to provide equal and fair service to everyone, regardless of party affiliation. And he is doing this under the roof of the Republican People's Party (CHP) and will continue to do so under the same roof. We invite everyone to responsible and principled journalism and remind them not to give credence to dirty campaigns carried out through lies and slander."
