The Republican People's Party (CHP) has begun the countdown for its 38th Ordinary Congress, which will be held on November 4-5.

Yesterday (October 26), Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu met with Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu at the Çankaya Ahlatlıbel Facilities and accepted the offer to serve as the Chair of the Congress.

While Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and Özgür Özel are expected to compete at the congress, İmamoğlu's acceptance of Kılıçdaroğlu's Chairmanship offer—despite being a leading figure in the “change” movement within the party—has sparked various interpretations.

Attending the “Republic and Women with Growing Dreams” event in Istanbul, Ekrem İmamoğlu answered questions from members of the press.

"WE ARE ON THE PATH WE DEFINED WITH ÖZGÜR ÖZEL"

In response to the question, “Does your acceptance of this offer from the Headquarters mean you have abandoned your call for 'change'? There are comments that you have put Özgür Özel in a difficult position,” İmamoğlu replied:

“No, there is no such situation at all. Those who think that my thoughts can change based on a position either do not know me, or they have no knowledge of my ideals and my perspective on politics. I am the same person with the same convictions today as I was on June 4, when I spoke with the Chairman. I am at the same point regarding the path we have defined with Mr. Özgür Özel. They know my position, and they invited me to this duty knowing this.”
