CHP Chairman Özgür Özel answered questions from the press regarding the agenda following his party's group meeting at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). While Özel made notable assessments regarding the agreement between the SDF and the Syrian interim administration, he avoided commenting on the remarks made by Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş regarding his presidential candidacy.
HE SPOKE ABOUT THE SDF AGREEMENT
Özel pointed out that there have been conflicting statements regarding the content of the 8-point agreement signed between the SDF and the Syrian interim administration.
"There were 8 points announced to the public last night, and these were being followed closely. However, the statements coming from SDF spokespersons before I arrived here contain serious differences regarding the content of the agreement," said Özel, summarizing the two different narratives as follows:
"The points that emerged the other evening stated that oil resources would be transferred to the central government and that the SDF would join the Syrian army. However, today the SDF spokesperson says, 'All oil resources will remain with us, the Syrian central army will never enter our regions, and we will only symbolically hoist the Syrian flag in our regions.' There is a huge difference between these two different statements. The matter needs to be clarified by reliable sources."
HE REMAINED SILENT ON THE MANSUR YAVAŞ QUESTION
Özel was also asked about the statement made by Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş regarding his presidential candidacy, in which he said, "When the day comes, we will look at the conditions of Turkey at that time and, if necessary, share our opinion with the public."
However, Özel chose not to respond to this question posed as he left the group meeting and remained silent.
WHAT HAD HE SAID?
At a time when Ekrem İmamoğlu is reportedly taking steps toward a presidential candidacy within the CHP, another name on the agenda for candidacy, Mansur Yavaş, had made a striking statement. In his remarks, Yavaş had said, "There are at least 2.5-3 years, perhaps more, until the presidential election. We are not in a position to disrupt our services and take action for a presidential election whose date is not even set yet. When the day comes, we will look at the environment."
