The Republican People's Party (CHP) celebrated the 102nd anniversary of its founding with a ceremony held at Taksim Square. Chairman Özgür Özel laid a wreath at the Atatürk Monument together with the removed Istanbul Provincial Chairman Özgür Çelik and party members. Following the ceremony, Özel gave a speech emphasizing that they would uphold the party's founding values.
TEKİN HAD SAID "I WILL WELCOME ÖZEL"
Gürsel Tekin, who was appointed as a trustee to the CHP Istanbul Provincial Presidency by a court decision, had come to the Atatürk Monument in Taksim in the morning to lay a wreath. In a statement to the press, Tekin had said that he would return to the square at 14:00 and welcome Chairman Özgür Özel and the CHP delegation. Tekin had used the expressions, "We will join hands and arms in a way that befits our party's founding philosophy today, and we will focus on Turkey's real agenda."
DID NOT ATTEND THE CEREMONY
However, contrary to his promise, Gürsel Tekin did not attend the ceremony held in the afternoon. Özgür Özel and the accompanying CHP delegation laid a wreath at the Atatürk Monument without Tekin, and the official ceremony held afterward concluded.
