HEDEP Co-Chair Tülay Hatimoğulları made statements at her party's women's group meeting.

"Today is November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women; therefore, we are holding our group meeting today only with valuable women," said Hatimoğulları, who continued as follows:

"WOMEN ARE BEING MURDERED"

"The 21-year AKP government wants to imprison us in our homes in the 21st century. In the last 2.5 years alone, 1,079 women have been murdered by men. At least one woman is murdered every day in this country. Women are not murdered by coincidence. They are murdered as a result of a male-dominated mentality. They are murdered because of this government's hostile politics, and they are murdered because of the system of impunity. Women say 'I have no safety,' they tell the state 'give me protection,' but the state does not provide protection. The state does not protect women. Because the state does not protect women, women are being murdered. And because the male judiciary applies unjust provocation reductions to women's murderers, and because men who murder women walk free, that is why women continue to be murdered every day.

"WE ARE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE MEAL NOT COOKED AT HOME"

Because the AKP government and its partners make people with different sexual orientations targets of hate crimes, they are being murdered. We shout once again from here: Women, life, freedom.

While we are holding this group meeting, budget negotiations are continuing in the commission. And women in this country, and even on a global scale, are becoming increasingly impoverished. Women own only 1 percent of the world's capital. Men manage 99 percent. Added to women's poverty is underground labor, and precarious, low-wage piecework at home. We are held accountable for the meal not cooked at home. Yet, you should go and hold the system accountable for the meal not cooked at home. We are also held accountable for why our children go to bed hungry. Yet, the reason for this is the system and this very government that manages the economy. We must hold them accountable for it.

"WE WILL ESTABLISH A MINISTRY OF WOMEN"

It was left to women to rebuild life in tents and containers after the earthquake. A video was released recently. Women are walking around in slippers in the pouring rain. This state did not even provide a pair of shoes to earthquake-victim women.

While the realities of life are like this, there is no mention of women in the budget negotiations in Parliament. There are no children, no disabled people, and no people with different sexual orientations in this budget. This budget is not gender-sensitive or human-sensitive. This budget contains capital, allocation of resources to cronies, and opening the door to corruption.

We will establish a Ministry of Women, and the budget for the Ministry of Women will be debated separately.
