A new development has occurred regarding Dilruba K., who was arrested on two separate charges for criticizing the Instagram ban during a street interview.

Following an appeal by Dilruba K.'s lawyer, Hüseyin Yıldız, a release decision was issued for the charge of 'insulting the President.'

After the release decision for Dilruba K. was issued, lawyer Hüseyin Yıldız spoke to 12punto.

'HER DETENTION CONTINUES'

Lawyer Hüseyin Yıldız stated the following:

“This was reflected in the press as an acquittal, but that statement is incorrect. She was released on the charge of insulting the President, but her detention continues. We obtained the release decision as a result of our appeal. The court regarding the charge of inciting the public to hatred and hostility will take place soon. I believe that is why they did not issue a release decision for that charge. The court will take place on September 3, and we expect a release decision to come from there as well.”

WHAT HAPPENED?

As a result of the crisis between Instagram and the government, there was an eight-day access ban on Instagram in Turkey. Shortly after RTÜK Chairman Ebubekir Şahin stated that they were monitoring street interviews, Dilruba K., who gave an interview to the YouTube channel named 'Tüysüz Mikrofon,' was arrested and sent to prison following her comments regarding the access ban.
