Secularism, as a fundamental characteristic of the Republic of Turkey, was included among the unchangeable provisions of the constitution on February 5, 1937. The 87th anniversary of secularism, which is among the fundamental characteristics of the state, is being celebrated.
The People's Liberation Party (HKP) delegation visited Atatürk at his eternal resting place, Anıtkabir, today on the 87th anniversary of the adoption of secularism. The ceremony was attended by HKP Deputy Secretary General Attorney Sait Kıran, HKP Central Disciplinary Board Chair Attorney Ayça Okur, HKP Central Executive Committee member Adnan Okur, and party members. A wreath was laid at Atatürk's mausoleum, followed by a moment of silence.
"WE WILL DEFEND THE SECULAR REPUBLIC"
After taking a commemorative photo on the steps of Anıtkabir, the HKP delegation moved to the Misak-ı Milli Tower. HKP's Ayça Okur signed the Anıtkabir Special Book and wrote the following:
“Respected Mustafa Kemal, leader of our anti-imperialist First War of Liberation, Dear Atam,
We are in your presence as the People's Liberation Party, the second-generation liberation fighters who feel in every cell the spirit of the Kuvayi Milliye, with which you realized your determination and faith in our people by saying ‘They will go as they came,’ and with which you defeated the imperialists for the first time in the world and tore up the Treaty of Sèvres.
In the days when the Istanbul Government issued a death warrant for you, you did not surrender to the palace; you provided an unparalleled example of struggle within the people and together with the people, and you gifted and entrusted to us the secular Republic that will ‘raise generations with free thought, free conscience, and free wisdom.’
Great leader, your trust is the crown on our heads and the guide for our struggle. Especially in these days we live in, where shouts for Sharia are being bellowed and our secular Republic is being openly challenged...
On the anniversary of the declaration of secularism, all members of the People's Liberation Party, especially the women of the Liberation Party, are fighting with the awareness of our duty as the protectors, guardians, and those who will carry the secular Republic even further. Because, as you stated in your Address to the Youth;
‘Even more dire and dangerous than all these conditions, those who hold power within the country may be in a state of negligence, error, and even treason. Furthermore, these holders of power may unite their personal interests with the political ambitions of the invaders. The nation may be ruined and exhausted in poverty and destitution,’ your foresight has unfortunately come true.
Outside the country, our homeland's soil is being eyed within the framework of the Greater Middle East Project (BOP), which is the name of the new Sèvres. With the awareness that our duty, ‘even under these circumstances and conditions,’ is to ‘save the independence and the republic’ and to ensure the full independence of our country, we will crown our national liberation, which you commanded, with social liberation in a way that there will be no turning back. With our respects...”
