How will the CHP respond to the AKP's 'new Constitution' proposal? It came to the agenda at the first Party Assembly

In the CHP, the first PM (Party Assembly) meeting held after the March 31 local elections addressed the regions that were not won on March 31.

According to the report by Mustafa Bildircin from BirGün; the CHP determined voter tendencies based on political views and socioeconomic characteristics. It was stated that the study revealing voter tendencies would play an important role in determining the policies of the new era.

HATAY ON THE PARTY AGENDA

Hatay, which CHP Leader Özgür Özel described as “a personal matter for me from now on,” was on the agenda of both the MYK (Central Executive Board) and the PM.

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, who evaluated the rejection of the objection regarding the Hatay elections by the YSK (Supreme Election Council) with his staff at the MYK, also discussed the Hatay issue with party members at the PM. On the other hand, it was stated that Hatay would also be on the agenda at the closed meetings to be held with mayors and provincial chairs on April 20-21.

AUDIT OF MUNICIPALITIES

CHP Party Spokesperson Deniz Yücel made statements to journalists while the PM meeting was ongoing. Providing information about the work of the “Local Governments Coordination, Audit, and Training Unit” established within the Headquarters, Yücel said, “With this unit, we will establish a system where we will deliver tried and successful projects to other provinces. Our successful mayors who have served in the past, along with retired Court of Accounts auditors, will provide guidance in the much more efficient use of our municipalities' budgets and resources with their experience and knowledge.”

THOSE WORKING AGAINST THE PARTY WILL BE EXPELLED

Regarding the news in BirGün that “The CHP asked organizations to report the names of people who worked against the CHP candidate on March 31 and the activities they carried out against the party,” CHP's Yücel gave the following response:

“The CHP is a party governed by rules, bylaws, and regulations. If there is a party member working to weaken the CHP's success in the election process, it is our duty and responsibility above all else to impose a sanction.”

NEW CONSTITUTION

Yücel's response to Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç's words, “Everyone agrees on a new Constitution,” was as follows:

"Let us state this clearly, and let the Minister hear it too. It is out of the question for us, the CHP, which came in first by receiving 38 percent of the public's vote, to agree with those who ignore the law, do not adopt democracy, usurp the will of the people, interfere with the judiciary, eliminate judicial independence and impartiality, slash rights and freedoms, ignore constitutional institutions, and violate the Constitution."

INTENSE WEEKEND SCHEDULE

The intense schedule in the CHP will continue on April 20-21. A workshop titled “CHP Municipalism on the Path to Power” will be held on April 20-21. On Saturday, April 20, after the opening speech by CHP Leader Özel, metropolitan, provincial, and district municipalities will hold meetings in separate halls. Metropolitan mayors will share their experiences in the meetings to be held on Saturday afternoon.

On Sunday, April 21, two different panels will be held. Murat Karayalçın and Yılmaz Büyükerşen will be speakers at the panels. On the same day, five different academics will also make presentations. In the panels, CHP mayors who have served for more than one term will also be given the floor.

MEETING WITH ERDOĞAN

The workshop will close with a speech by CHP Leader Özel. In all these internal party meetings, Özel will also take the opinions of his party members regarding the content of the meeting he plans to hold with President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
