Hülya Terzioğlu appointed as AKP Deputy Chair replacing Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya

Following the resignation of Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya in the wake of a fund investigation, Prof. Dr. Hülya Terzioğlu has been appointed as the AKP Deputy Chair responsible for Social Policies.

Prof. Dr. Hülya Terzioğlu has been appointed to replace Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya, who resigned from her post in the AKP following allegations of illicit gain within the scope of a fund investigation. Terzioğlu has become the party's Deputy Chair responsible for Social Policies.

The appointment was announced by AKP Deputy Chair and Party Spokesperson Ömer Çelik. In a statement on his X account, Çelik said, "With the appreciation of our esteemed President and Chairman, Ms. Prof. Dr. Hülya Terzioğlu has been appointed as our Deputy Chair responsible for Social Policies."

Çelik noted that Terzioğlu, a graduate of the Marmara University Faculty of Theology, remained away from academia for many years due to the implementation of the headscarf ban. Stating that Terzioğlu began her academic career at Sakarya University Faculty of Theology as of 2013, Çelik noted that her areas of study include modern-era belief problems, Islam and women, gender, deism, the belief in destiny, and the issue of freedom.

According to information on the AKP's website, Hülya Terzioğlu was born in 1970 in the Alaca district of Çorum. Graduating from the Marmara University Faculty of Theology in 1996, Terzioğlu completed her master's and doctoral studies in the Department of Basic Islamic Sciences, Division of Kalam, at the same university.

Terzioğlu, who worked as a teacher and administrator at a private educational institution in Istanbul for many years, has published books such as "Balance of World and Hereafter in Islam," "Perception of Women in Maturidi," "Divorce from History to the Present," and "Rethinking the Position of Women in Islam."

Terzioğlu, who also served as the founding representative of the Women and Democracy Association (KADEM) in Sakarya, continues her role as a faculty member in the Department of Kalam at Sakarya University Faculty of Theology, which she began in 2013. It was stated that Terzioğlu was appointed to a professorship in 2023 and is a mother of one child.
