İmamoğlu addresses those who voted for AKP and MHP! 'To my conscientious brothers and sisters...'

CHP presidential candidate and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu described the injustices he faced during the month of Ramadan in a post made from Silivri Prison. İmamoğlu emphasized that the accusations against him were fabricated and that the process that began following the 1 million vote margin they achieved in the election was unjust.

CHP presidential candidate and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu was detained on March 19 and subsequently arrested on March 23, after which he was sent to Silivri Prison. In a post made from prison during his detention, İmamoğlu addressed citizens who voted for the AKP and MHP in particular.

In his post, İmamoğlu described the process he went through, stating, "Those who talk about religion and conscience at every opportunity canceled my 31-year-old diploma during the holy month of Ramadan and detained me that same night." İmamoğlu, who noted that 1,200 inspectors had audited every transaction during his tenure as IMM mayor, emphasized that no irregularities were found despite all the investigations.

İmamoğlu referred to the election results with the words, "The nation saw everything, knew everything, and elected us for the 3rd time with a 1 million vote margin." However, he then explained how the process began, stating, "Action was taken upon the complaints of a group that could not get work from the municipality and some people with dozens of criminal records." Stating that the slanders targeting him were supported by fake news, İmamoğlu indicated that despite this, no crime has been found and the accusations against him are completely fabricated.


İmamoğlu used the following expressions in his post:

I am addressing my conscientious brothers and sisters who voted for the AK Party and MHP. Those who talk about religion and conscience at every opportunity canceled my 31-year-old diploma during an Iftar time in the holy month of Ramadan, and detained me on the night of that same day at Sahur time.

After I took office, 1,200 inspectors came to the IMM, and every transaction of ours was scrutinized. Every step we took, every breath we took was closely monitored. All the inspectors who had not come for years camped out at the IMM, the IMM Assembly constantly audited us, and a group of media outlets searched for flaws every day. All work and transactions, including tenders, were instantly reflected in the press and shared with all their details.

Thank God, we came out of all of them clean; no irregularities were found.

The nation saw everything, knew everything, and elected us for the 3rd time with a 1 million vote margin.

Everything started after that.

Action was taken upon the complaints of a group that could not get work from the municipality and some people with dozens of criminal records. Secret witness slanders were added to these, and an unimaginable accusation was created from this. They concocted a bag and threw everything they could think of into it.

Now, like the saying "the brazen thief blames the homeowner," they are trying to come out on top with a bombardment of fake news about us. When no serious crime could be found, they are forcing people to become "secret witnesses" or "perjurers" by calling them. It is a pity, a great pity.

Thank God, we have no account that we cannot give. Those who act with a conspiratorial mindset will eventually lose, but in the meantime, it is our beautiful country that suffers.

My diploma is canceled in one day, all our assets that we have accumulated with sweat and labor for generations are suddenly confiscated, and our dignity is trampled upon.

We must put a stop to this lawlessness, which could knock on everyone's door one day, for the sake of our children and our future. We must put a stop to the mentality that sees every path as legitimate in order to protect a seat that does not belong to it. There is no party to protecting morality, rights, and law.

I trust the common sense of the people of this country from every viewpoint. I have no doubt that everyone is on the side of the national will. We must now stop the oppression that a handful of people who have not received their share of rights and law are inflicting on this country. Elections come and go, this party comes, that party goes, but what is permanent is our trust in rights and law.
