CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik made a statement following the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu. Çelik announced that İmamoğlu was taken to the Vatan Police Headquarters and that CHP Chairman Özgür Özel is on his way to Istanbul. Çelik stated that all CHP members have begun heading to Vatan Police Headquarters and Saraçhane.

Speaking during a live broadcast, Çelik announced that İmamoğlu was taken to the Vatan Police Headquarters.

Stating that CHP Chairman Özgür Özel set out after receiving the news of the detention, Çelik said:
"I am trying to enter Vatan Avenue, they have blocked the roads. Our Chairman is coming to Istanbul. All CHP members are heading to Vatan Police Headquarters and Saraçhane."
