Arrested and removed from office during the IBB operation, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu supported MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli's call for a commission to be established in the TBMM following the PKK's decision to disband, stating, "In order to successfully complete the process, it is a necessity of our responsibility to our nation that the matter be addressed by opening a general debate in our parliament and that a 'Commission for a Terror-Free and Democratic Turkey' be formed with the participation of all parties represented in the parliament."

The statement made by İmamoğlu via the Presidential Candidate Office X account is as follows:

"Following the terrorist organization PKK's decision to lay down arms and disband itself, we must build a participatory, transparent, and democratic process together under the guidance of the TBMM. It is our responsibility to our history, our nation, and our common future for our country to advance with patience and a participatory will toward the goal of a Terror-Free and Democratic Turkey that earns the trust of our nation. As we have stated before, in order to successfully complete this process, it is a necessity of our responsibility to our nation that the matter be addressed by opening a general debate in our parliament and that a 'Commission for a Terror-Free and Democratic Turkey' be formed with the participation of all parties represented in the parliament. Our Chairman, Mr. Özgür Özel, has made a historic call for the establishment of this commission. For the sake of silencing the guns and ending terrorism, the fact that this commission works with a transparent, participatory, democratic, and pluralistic will will enable us to successfully fulfill this historic responsibility. It is valuable that MHP Chairman Mr. Devlet Bahçeli has also made a call for the establishment of a commission within the TBMM. I believe that this process will only reach success if it serves as a means for Turkey to become a democratic country, and it will provide hope and confidence to our nation. I hope that a transparent, participatory, and democratic TBMM ground, where work is done for the goal of a Terror-Free and Democratic Turkey, and the national will, will guide us all. Our nation should not worry at all. We will protect the rights of the citizens and the future of our country under all circumstances, and we will continue to strongly demonstrate our firm will to gift a Terror-Free and Democratic Turkey to our nation."
