İmamoğlu trial postponed until after the election!

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu's tender case has been postponed to April 25, 2023, at 3:00 PM.

The Ministry of Interior had launched an investigation into İmamoğlu's tenure as Mayor of Beylikdüzü. The subject of the investigation was a tender held on December 29, 2015. The Ministry of Interior's Civil Inspection Board sent the report it prepared to the Büyükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. The indictment prepared by the Büyükçekmece prosecutor's office alleged that the public suffered a loss of 250 thousand liras.

In the indictment prepared against Ekrem İmamoğlu, a prison sentence of 3 to 7 years was requested for 7 individuals, including İmamoğlu, on charges of 'rigging a tender'.

The prosecution also requested the application of Article 53 of the Turkish Penal Code, titled 'Deprivation of certain rights', which is known in the public as a 'political ban', for İmamoğlu and the other suspects. The first hearing of the case was held at the Büyükçekmece Courthouse on June 15.

The second hearing of the case filed against İmamoğlu was held today. The 'Beylikdüzü case' of İmamoğlu, for whom a prison sentence of 3 to 7 years is requested, has been postponed to April 25.

The postponement of the decision until after the election drew attention.

REQUEST REJECTED

The prosecutor requested a warrant for the forcible appearance of İmamoğlu.

The prosecutor's request was as follows: "Given that the defendant did not appear despite the notification of the invitation specified in Article 145 of Law No. 5271, a warrant for his forcible appearance should be issued; the objections of some defense attorneys regarding the Ministry of Interior's participation in the case as a plaintiff should be rejected, and it should be decided to submit the file in its entirety to an expert."
