The first hearing of the case filed against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor and CHP presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu, who is currently detained in Silivri, regarding the press conference he held in Saraçhane on January 27 titled "The Big Radish", was held today.
CASE ADJOURNED
İmamoğlu and his lawyers did not attend the hearing in protest of the trial being moved from Çağlayan to Silivri. The case was adjourned to September 26.
"THE HEARING IS IRREGULAR"
Making a statement on his social media account before the hearing, İmamoğlu used the following expressions:
"You are filing lawsuits over the very breath we take. The prosecutor of every case is the same, the expert is the same, the lawlessness is the same. As if that were not enough, you change the venue of the trial one day before and notify me and my lawyers at the last minute. You are even afraid of us defending ourselves. I do not accept these arbitrary practices of yours that hinder our right to defense. Today's hearing is irregular and does not comply with the principles of trial. I refuse to be a part of such a process and therefore I will not attend this hearing. I trust the independent Turkish judiciary and its members to the end, but I refuse to be a part of this planned process."
