As the war in Gaza enters its second year, Hamas has accepted the peace plan proposed by US President Trump. In the first phase, Hamas will release the Israeli hostages it holds. CALL FOR PEACE FROM İMAMOĞLU
Ekrem İmamoğlu made important assessments regarding the peace process in Gaza in a post on his social media account. İmamoğlu said, “Today, we are at a new turning point with Hamas accepting the proposed peace plan. US President Trump's plan offers an important opportunity for the release of hostages, the return of Palestinian prisoners to their homes, and the delivery of urgent humanitarian aid to Gaza.”
TWO-STATE SOLUTION
İmamoğlu stated that the peace plan also brings important topics to the table regarding the future of the region. Emphasizing issues such as the withdrawal of the Israeli army from Gaza, the reconstruction of Gaza, and the administration of the region, İmamoğlu pointed out the need to open the door to a larger goal: “This plan must also open the door to a larger goal that will determine the future of the region: a two-state solution and the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination.”
AN UNJUST PEACE CANNOT BE PERMANENT
Emphasizing the importance of justice, İmamoğlu said, “Let us not forget: An unjust peace cannot be permanent. The future of Gaza must be built not with force, but with conscience, justice, and legitimacy.” Touching upon the need for the international community to be the guarantor of human dignity, İmamoğlu said that every step taken for the future of Gaza would strengthen conscience and hope throughout the world.
