Following the arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, the protests that grew across Turkey continued today with a massive rally in Istanbul's Maltepe.

According to the figures announced by CHP Chairman Ozgur Ozel, 2.2 million people attended the "Freedom for Imamoglu Rally."

DETENTION AND ARREST PROCESS  

IMM Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu was detained on Wednesday, March 19, under instructions from the "Palace." On Sunday, March 23, he was arrested by the court and sent to prison. This decision triggered protests that began in Istanbul's Sarachane and quickly spread throughout Turkey.

MASSIVE RALLY IN MALTEPE  

The protests continuing across Turkey reached a new peak today with a large-scale gathering held at the Maltepe Rally Ground. Many political parties and non-governmental organizations supported the rally, which was called by the CHP. CHP Chairman Ozgur Ozel announced that 2.2 million people attended the rally.

Throughout the rally, slogans such as "Freedom," "Bring the Ballot Box," and "Ekrem Imamoglu is Not Alone" were chanted. The millions who filled the square called for justice while holding Turkish flags and placards.

Following the rally, IMM Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu shared a photo of the event on the social media platform X, with the caption "The Nation is Great!" Imamoglu's post received hundreds of thousands of likes and comments in a short time.
