Indictment prepared for Ümit Özdağ! Up to 7 years and 10 months in prison requested

An indictment has been filed against Victory Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ, seeking a prison sentence ranging from 1 year, 10 months, and 15 days to 7 years, 10 months, and 15 days for the crime of "inciting the public to hatred and hostility through the press in a chain manner."

INDICTMENT PREPARED

According to a report by Ceylan Sever from HaberTürk, a prison sentence of 1 year, 10 months, and 15 days to 7 years, 10 months, and 15 days has been requested for Ümit Özdağ on charges of "inciting the public to hatred and hostility through the press in a chain manner."

WHAT HAPPENED?

Speaking at his party's Provincial Chairmen Consultation Meeting in Antalya on January 19, Özdağ had said, "No Crusade that has taken place in the last thousand years has caused as much damage to the Turkish nation and the Turkish state as Erdoğan and the AKP have." One day after this speech, Özdağ was detained in Ankara on charges of "insulting the President" and brought to Istanbul. He was arrested on January 21 on charges of "inciting the public to hatred and hostility or humiliation" and sent to Marmara Prison in Silivri.

Özdağ had been reacting to the fact that an indictment had not been prepared, stating, "I want to be tried." Most recently, in protest, Özdağ had begun refusing the meals provided in prison.
