Individual stripped of gold belt due to doping allegations appointed as head of CHP Sports Board

It has emerged that former Kırkpınar chief wrestler Savaş Yıldırım has been appointed as the head of the Sports Board in the CHP. Yıldırım's appointment has sparked controversy due to the fact that his Kırkpınar chief wrestler title, which he won in 2002, was stripped from him following a doping test.

Yıldırım had faced Hasan Tuna in the final of the 641st Historical Kırkpınar Oil Wrestling tournament and became the chief wrestler by defeating his opponent in the extra time period. Urine samples taken after the match were analyzed at the Hacettepe University Doping Control Center.

Following the analysis, it was announced that Yıldırım's doping test result was positive. According to information reflected in the public domain, it was stated that a substance with muscle-strengthening effects, which is among the drugs covered by doping regulations, had been used.

At that time, Mehmet Ayhan, the Vice President responsible for Oil Wrestling, had announced that following the doping result, the gold belt won at Kırkpınar should be taken from Yıldırım and given to Hasan Tuna, who had finished second in the final.

It was also reported that Yıldırım was among the individuals walking arm-in-arm to the General Headquarters during the events that took place at the CHP General Headquarters.

Another appointment regarding the sports structure in the CHP had also come to the agenda recently. It was reported that Erkan Çakır, who was stated to have a criminal record for blackmail, was being tried on charges of fraud, and had testified as a witness in the "suspicion" investigation regarding the CHP's 2023 congress, had been made the "Eastern Anatolia Regional Representative" during the Kılıçdaroğlu administration.

Çakır had announced his resignation from his post with a statement he made following the news regarding the appointment in question.
