Interior Ministry closes case on 59-vehicle allocation to AKP: 'No criminal element' found!

CHP Deputy Chairman and Zonguldak MP Deniz Yavuzyılmaz had brought to light the allegation in June that 59 public official vehicles were allocated to the AKP Istanbul Provincial Presidency during the period when the AKP governed the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.

Yavuzyılmaz filed a criminal complaint with the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the matter and shared the brands and license plate information of the vehicles on his social media account, stating the following:

“During the AKP era at the İBB; we have filed a criminal complaint regarding 59 vehicles that were illegally allocated to the AKP Istanbul Provincial Presidency for a total of 14,657 days. Let's see if a public lawsuit will be filed?”

MINISTRY: NO MISCONDUCT IN OFFICE

However, the application made regarding the issue remained inconclusive. The Ministry of Interior responded on July 7, 2025, to an investigation directed by the Istanbul Governorship following an application made via CİMER.

The Ministry of Interior's response included the following statements:

“In our examination of the records regarding the allegations in question, as a result of the research conducted by the Ministry of Interior, it has been concluded that ‘since the element of the crime of misconduct in office did not occur, the relevant municipal officials have no legal liability, and there is no action to be taken against them.’”

With this statement, the process regarding the allocation of the 59 vehicles has been closed.

14,657 DAYS OF IRREGULAR ALLOCATION

According to the information included in the criminal complaint by CHP's Yavuzyılmaz, 59 vehicles belonging to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality were given for the use of the AKP Istanbul Provincial Presidency for a total of 14,657 days during the AKP era. It was alleged that these allocations had no legal basis and that public resources were used in favor of a political party.
