The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into the 38th Ordinary Congress of the Republican People's Party (CHP), which took place at the Ankara Sports Hall on November 4-5, 2023.

The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has summoned former CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and former CHP Group Deputy Chairman Akif Hamzaçebi to testify as witnesses.

In a statement made by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was noted that following a report filed with the Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding allegations that "votes were cast in exchange for money on the day of the congress" at the CHP Congress held in Ankara, the file was sent to the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office with a decision of lack of jurisdiction.


The statement said, "Following the transfer of the file, an investigation was initiated by our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office in January 2024. Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and Akif Hamzaçebi have been summoned to testify as witnesses due to the statements they made in the press and on social media regarding the incident subject to the investigation. The investigation is being conducted meticulously. It is announced to the public with respect."

FIRST STATEMENT FROM HAMZAÇEBİ

The first statement regarding the matter has come from Hamzaçebi, who was called to testify.


Posting on his X account, Hamzaçebi said, "I do not have any allegations regarding our congress such as suspicion, etc. I do not possess such information. I have not made any insinuations. I am not a witness either. If my previous statement is looked at, this will be seen."


Hamzaçebi used the following expressions:

What I am saying is this. Mr. Erdoğan is making allegations of suspicion for the fourth time that I have counted regarding the Congress where Mr. Özgür Özel was elected as CHP Chairman. Responding to everything Erdoğan says is to follow his agenda. I do not find this correct either. However, while these expressions, which constantly aim to cast a shadow over the will of our delegates, should be met with a harsh response and the matter should be closed, this is not being done. The harsh words and insults that Erdoğan has directed at our Party to date have always been met with the harshest response.

What I am saying is that there should not be silence in the face of these allegations that have now become continuous.


Remaining silent is not something I can accept.


If I were in the Party management, I would not remain silent and would challenge him. At the very least, I would give an answer like this:


'I do not take seriously Mr. Erdoğan's expressions aimed at casting a shadow over our Congress. We are confident in our Congress and our delegates. Instead of talking about us, he should look at his own party. When it comes to suspicion, the party that comes to mind is the AK Party, not the CHP.'


My criticism is that such an answer is not given, allowing Erdoğan to keep the issue constantly on the agenda."
