CHP Kars Deputy İnan Akgün Alp recalled the resistance shown by Kars during the Crimean War in 1855 and proposed that its name be changed to "Gazi Kars" (Veteran Kars).

In his speech at the General Assembly of the Parliament, Alp described the city's historical resistance and heroism, stating, "It resisted with 9 thousand people and defeated the 54 thousand-strong Russian army." He also expressed the importance of the "Gazi" title granted to the city and what this title means for Kars.

It was noted that this proposal aims to restore the "Gazi" title, which was granted by Sultan Abdülmecid as a result of the resistance and heroism shown by Kars during the Crimean War in 1855.

Stating that the effort to regain the "Gazi" title for Kars is not just a name change, but also signifies the recognition of the city's historical and cultural heritage, Alp requested support for the legislative proposal from the TBMM and said that he would fight for Kars to regain the "Veteran" title it deserves.
