Sözcü columnist Aytunç Erkin, in an article pointing to certain debates and divisions within the Republican People's Party (CHP) following the March 31 local elections, shared allegations that some deputies close to former CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu are calling delegates to secure their commitment to sign for an extraordinary convention in advance.
'TURBULENT DAYS MAY LIE AHEAD'
The full text of Erkin's article is as follows:
"Deputies close to Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu in the CHP are calling delegates and securing promises for them to sign for an extraordinary convention in advance. They are receiving positive responses on this matter as well. Turbulent days may lie ahead for the CHP in November and December."
Following information provided by a friend who closely follows the corridors of Ankara, I walked the corridors of the CHP.
'İMAMOĞLU'S STANCE IS IMPORTANT'
One deputy stated that signatures were not being collected but highlighted the discomfort felt by deputies who have been "marginalized" by the CHP leadership, adding: "Some deputies may be calling delegates, which is normal, but what the delegates close to Ekrem İmamoğlu will do—in other words, İmamoğlu's stance—is what is important here."
In the meantime, while mentioning İmamoğlu, let us provide this information: A meeting regarding the "fool" case against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu took place on September 28. At the meeting in Istanbul, district mayors declared their support for İmamoğlu. CHP Istanbul Provincial Chairman Özgür Çelik also made the following post on his social media account: "We are determined, we are side by side, we will not give up! We held our evaluation meeting with our IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and our district mayors." Meanwhile, the billboards in the districts were also adorned with the following poster: "We are determined! We are faithful! We are patient! We will not give up!"
