İSKİ General Manager Assoc. Prof. Dr. Şafak Başa was released under house arrest following his detention in the second wave of operations targeting the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB). Thanking those who supported him, Başa stated, "Even though I am under house arrest, I will continue to work for Istanbul and my country."

İSKİ General Manager Assoc. Prof. Dr. Şafak Başa was released under house arrest, with his health condition taken into consideration, after being detained in the second wave of operations targeting the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB). Making a statement on his social media account regarding the baseless accusations against him, Başa thanked CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, İBB Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, professional chambers, legal experts, journalists, and citizens who supported him throughout the process. Başa stated, "The truth will come out sooner or later. Even though I am under house arrest, I will continue to work for Istanbul and the beautiful people of my country."
"HOUSE ARREST" WAS IMPOSED
Şafak Başa had been detained in the second wave of the operation. Başa, whose detention drew intense public reaction, particularly due to his health condition, was among the 4 people for whom a house arrest decision was issued. Of those detained, 30 were released under judicial control, while 18 were arrested.

Şafak Başa, who was placed under house arrest, published a thank-you message on his social media account today while being taken from the courthouse to the hospital.
Başa's message is as follows:
"I would like to express my endless gratitude to my family who was constantly by my side during the detention process I experienced due to the baseless accusations made against me and my friends, to all my friends who showed solidarity, to CHP Chairman Mr. Özgür Özel who followed the process closely and conveyed his get-well wishes, to my Metropolitan Mayor Mr. Ekrem İmamoğlu and our Deputy Mayor Mr. Nuri Aslan, to the managers and employees of İBB and İSKİ, to our deputies and mayors, to non-governmental organizations, especially the Istanbul Chamber of Physicians, who issued statements of support through various channels, to scientists, legal experts, journalists and commentators who made an effort to explain the truth of the incident, to my kind-hearted fellow citizens who sent messages of support from all corners of our country, and especially to my young brothers and sisters who organized support campaigns. I read the messages of support sent with tears in my eyes. It is my belief that the truth will come out sooner or later. Even though I am under house arrest, I will continue to work and produce for the ancient city of Istanbul and the beautiful people of my country."
