Wave of resignations in İYİ Party over Koray Aydın! Local leadership falls...

As the wave of resignations continues within the İYİ Party's Trabzon organization, the Yomra District administration has now collapsed following a series of resignations. In his statement, District Chairman Gökcan Şahin said, "It is a matter of honor for the İYİ Party to hold those who usurped the voting rights of an elected delegate accountable and to explain this to the public. It is no longer possible for us to remain silent and watch the secret mechanisms, operations, and schemes set in motion to prevent Mr. Koray Aydın from becoming Chairman."

Resignations continue in Trabzon following the İYİ Party's Extraordinary Congress.

Following the process that began with the resignation of Yomra Mayor Mustafa Bıyık from party membership, and the subsequent resignations of the Provincial and Ortahisar District administrations, the Yomra District Chairman also announced his resignation from the party in a statement. District Chairman Gökcan Şahin stated in a press release that they have resigned from the İYİ Party, saying, “Together with our Board of Directors, our 9 Yomra Municipal Council members—2 of whom are in the Metropolitan Municipal Council—and our neighborhood heads, we have resigned from the İYİ Party.”

Şahin stated, “It is a matter of honor for the İYİ Party to hold those who usurped the voting rights of an elected delegate accountable and to explain this to the public. It is no longer possible for us to remain silent and watch the secret mechanisms, operations, and schemes set in motion to prevent Mr. Koray Aydın from becoming Chairman.”

Stating that “Yomra is the only municipality among those won by the İYİ Party across Turkey in 2019 that was won for a second time,” Şahin added, “As the İYİ Party Yomra District Presidency, we achieved the success of winning the Yomra Mayoral election twice in a row in the 2019 and 2024 local elections with our candidate Mustafa Bıyık. Yomra is the only municipality among those won by the İYİ Party across Turkey in 2019 that was won for a second time. The chief architect of these achievements, the pride of our Yomra and Trabzon, a valuable name in Turkish politics, and the İYİ Party's Chairman candidate at your last congress, is Koray Aydın.”

Noting that it is no longer possible to engage in politics under the same roof as İYİ Party Trabzon Deputy Yavuz Aydın, Şahin said, “As is known, our Trabzon provincial organization and Ortahisar district organization had previously resigned en masse, and our Yomra Mayor had left our party. Consequently, it is no longer possible for us to engage in politics in a party that deliberately stripped its own mayor of his right to vote simply because he sided with Mr. Koray Aydın. It is no longer possible for us to engage in politics under the same roof as a deputy who shows disloyalty even to the person who brought him into politics, who does not listen to the Trabzon organizations, and who specifically ignores Yomra. As the İYİ Party Yomra District Presidency, together with all our board members, our 25 neighborhood heads, and our 9 district municipal council members—2 of whom are Metropolitan Municipal Council members—we, as the entire Yomra organization, are resigning from the İYİ Party.”
