İYİ Party Ortahisar District Chair Erdal Uzun, speaking at a press conference held at the party headquarters, stated that the strategy followed by the party in the 2023 and 2024 elections, the policies implemented, and particularly the rhetoric of "opposing the opposition" during the local elections, were not accepted by the electorate.
Expressing that the İYİ Party's vote share is melting away day by day, Uzun said, "In order not to harm our party, we did our best as a requirement of being a party member, even though the decisions taken by our headquarters were misguided. However, as the İYİ Party, we suffered a heavy defeat in the elections across the country, with the exception of a limited number of provinces and districts."
Reminding that the party's founding chair, Meral Akşener, announced she would not be a candidate after deciding to hold a congress following the elections, Uzun stated that they stood "firmly" by Koray Aydın, who is from Trabzon and was a candidate at the extraordinary congress, alongside the Trabzon provincial organization, all district organizations, the founders' board member, the Mayor of Yomra, and elected supreme board delegates, and that they found those who could not stand by him to be strange.
Noting that Yomra Mayor Mustafa Bıyık, the only mayor in Turkey to win two consecutive elections from the İYİ Party, was unable to vote in this extraordinary congress despite being elected as a supreme board delegate at the provincial congress, Uzun argued that those unable to vote were not limited to Mustafa Bıyık.
Uzun stated the following:
"In our view, it is no longer possible for an İYİ Party that cannot protect the voting rights of its own mayor and cannot ensure the right of its own member to participate in the congress, and furthermore takes it away, to protect the rights and laws of the nation. Under these conditions, there is no longer any possibility for us to engage in politics within the İYİ Party in line with the political principles we believe in. As the İYİ Party Ortahisar District Chair, I am resigning from the chairmanship, all my duties within the organizations, and my İYİ Party membership. The vast majority of the İYİ Party Ortahisar executives have also resigned from both their duties and their party memberships, and the administration has fallen in accordance with the party bylaws."
Erdal Uzun added that 33 out of the 45 board members of the İYİ Party Ortahisar District Presidency have resigned.
