İYİ Party's Koray Aydın reacts to Bahçeli's convention call: 'A familiar theater written by the ruling power'

İYİ Party General Chair candidate and Ankara MP Koray Aydın responded on the social media platform X to MHP General Chair Devlet Bahçeli's call regarding Meral Akşener during the party's convention process. Aydın stated, "Attempts to cancel the extraordinary convention are unacceptable."

MHP General Chair Devlet Bahçeli had stated regarding the convention process in the İYİ Party, "Multiple candidates can also lead to multiple divisions. I am of the opinion that Meral Akşener should abandon her decision to step down and continue at the head of the party, and that those considering candidacy should rally around her."

İYİ Party General Chair candidate and Ankara MP Koray Aydın reacted to these remarks by Bahçeli in a written statement shared on his social media account. Aydın said, "A familiar theater written by the ruling power is being attempted to be staged."

Koray Aydın noted the following in his statement:

"ATTEMPTS TO CANCEL THE EXTRAORDINARY CONVENTION ARE UNACCEPTABLE

The İYİ Party was founded by good and brave people who took a stand against injustice, lawlessness, and unfairness, and who rebelled when necessary.

In 2016, despite the collection of signatures exceeding three times the required number to convene an extraordinary MHP convention—even surpassing an absolute majority—that convention was blocked by the clear intervention of the ruling power and a bizarre judicial coup.

Turkish nationalists, who did not remain silent in the face of this injustice and who did not bow down even to their 'father's house' when necessary, joined hands with good and brave people to establish the İYİ Party under the conditions of the state of emergency.

Our General Chair, Ms. Meral Akşener, decided to hold an extraordinary convention following her evaluation after the local elections and announced to the Turkish and world public that she would not be a candidate.

However, efforts to cancel the convention have gained momentum by organizing some of our İYİ Party MPs and Provincial Chairs.

Indeed, Mr. Bahçeli has clearly and explicitly expressed the demand of the ruling side for our General Chair to continue her duty and for the extraordinary convention to be cancelled.

A familiar theater written by the ruling power is being attempted to be staged with the scenario of cancelling the extraordinary convention.

Such unfortunate attempts mean disregarding the high character of our MPs, provincial chairs, and convention delegates, and placing a mortgage on their free will.

Rhetoric aimed at initiating an ordinary convention process instead of an extraordinary one will remain nothing more than an attempt to dilute the process and find an excuse for a stolen opportunity.

I make an open call to our General Chair, Ms. Meral Akşener, to stand behind the decision for an extraordinary convention until the end.

Cancelling the extraordinary convention will shake the credibility and seriousness of the İYİ Party in the eyes of politics and society.

Cancelling the extraordinary convention will also cause great harm to Ms. Meral Akşener's stance, reputation, and political career.

The decision to be made by the grand convention delegates of the İYİ Party, which is the Movement of the Good and the Brave, is what we will abide by.

The final word should belong to the delegates, not those who write the scenario that will lead the İYİ Party to political suicide.

This is the requirement of democracy and law."
