İYİ Party leader Meral Akşener requested, İYİ Party member İbrahim Özkan resigned: 'I am free and independent'

It has emerged that İYİ Party Chair Meral Akşener requested the resignation of İbrahim Özkan, the Deputy Chair of the İBB Group who advocated for cooperation with the CHP. Özkan resigned via a post on his social media account, stating, "I am free and independent."

Journalist İsmail Saymaz stated that following the debates that began after the İYİ Party said "no" to cooperation with the CHP, İYİ Party Istanbul Provincial Chair Yücel Coşkun requested that Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Group Deputy Chair İbrahim Özkan, who advocated for cooperation with the CHP, resign from his post.

Stating that he called İbrahim Özkan after receiving the information, Saymaz reported that Özkan told him, "Akşener requested my resignation. I have not made a decision yet."

Saymaz noted that following these events, Özkan and a group of other party members might also resign. Saymaz deleted the post in question after a while.

 

HE RESIGNED

Announcing his resignation following the allegations on his social media account, Özkan said:

"In line with the request of Chair Meral Akşener, I am now 'Free and Independent.' I am resigning from my post as Deputy Chair of the İBB İYİ Party Group."

The CHP had requested cooperation from the İYİ Party for the local elections.

The İYİ Party General Administrative Board (GİK) had rejected the CHP's request. İbrahim Özkan had made a statement on his social media account regarding the rejection of the request. In his post, Özkan had used the phrase, "Politics cannot be conducted against the will of the organizations."
