Kemal Okuyan announces TKP's election strategy! 'We will field a candidate'

Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) General Secretary Kemal Okuyan met with a group of journalists at the Nazım Hikmet Cultural Center in Kadıköy. Making assessments regarding his party's roadmap, developments in the region, the new peace process, and discussions on potential early elections, Okuyan said, "The TKP will field a presidential candidate."

"THE AKP IS ATTACKING. THERE IS PRESSURE ON ALL JOURNALISTS"

Kemal Okuyan included the following statements in his speech:

"The AKP is attacking. There is pressure on all journalists. It is interfering in the political sphere. It is detaining Ümit Özdağ. It is narrowing the field. It is eliminating its rivals. This element exists, but there is another issue. That is the act of attacking as a way of managing its internal contradictions. They are initiating a peace process. They are acting with a strategy aimed at getting rid of the Kurdish diaspora in Turkey and the Alevis within politics. They look at Syria and Iran this way. This is also a crisis of governance. Because the Republic of Turkey, plus this region, cannot fit into a sectarian ideology. What we have listed are the things underlying the crisis of governance. So, is the Republican People's Party, as a party aspiring to power, discussing these things in relation to this? Is there an effort to set up a game here? No. We are trying to look from a slightly different place. The country has been squeezed into İmamoğlu in terms of the opposition, or squeezed into Mansur Yavaş and İmamoğlu. On the other side, there is Erdoğan. Now, as a party, we are continuing our struggle, but on the other hand, we are trying to intervene in this squeeze."

"THE TKP WILL FIELD A PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE"

Responding to journalists' questions, Okuyan gave the following answer to a question regarding the candidacy in the upcoming presidential elections: "I am saying it very clearly. The Communist Party of Turkey will field a presidential candidate. Whether it fields them as a TKP candidate or as a candidate for a broader segment, if it is the case that the TKP will not support the candidate agreed upon by the parties we call the 'establishment opposition' in Turkey today, it will field its own candidate. This is an unchangeable decision of our party."
