A new controversy has emerged in the legal process regarding comedian Deniz Göktaş, who is facing an investigation over remarks made during his stand-up show. The claim that Göktaş told CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu to "let go of the CHP" during their meeting has become a subject of polemic in the public eye due to conflicting statements.
Deniz Göktaş, who returned to Turkey from his vacation abroad on July 2, was detained during passport control at Istanbul Airport. Göktaş, whose image in handcuffs caused a wide stir on social media following his detention, was referred to the Çağlayan Courthouse after his procedures at the police station.
Following the completion of the prosecutor's procedures, Göktaş was brought before the criminal judgeship of peace, which ordered his arrest.
HIS MEETING WITH KILIÇDAROĞLU BECAME A TOPIC OF DISCUSSION
Journalist Barış Pehlivan made statements regarding his conversation with Deniz Göktaş's lawyer, Metin Aslan, following the arrest decision. According to the information shared by Pehlivan, Aslan stated that Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu visited Göktaş and that during the meeting, the comedian told Kılıçdaroğlu to "let go of the CHP."
In the same post, it was also reported that Göktaş used the words "They will not be able to steal our joy" after his arrest.
KILIÇDAROĞLU'S TEAM DENIED THE CLAIM
Following these claims, Atakan Sönmez, an advisor to Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, made a statement on his social media account.
Sönmez stated that no such expression was used during the meeting, saying, "No such sentence was uttered during the meeting. Our Chairman, Mr. Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, met with Deniz Göktaş and offered his support."
On the other hand, a similar post was made from the CHP's official social media account, stating that the claim in question did not reflect the truth.
GÖKHAN HACIR ALSO SHARED KILIÇDAROĞLU'S STATEMENT
Gökhan Hacır also made a statement on his social media account, noting that he had spoken with Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu.
In his post, Hacır conveyed that Kılıçdaroğlu said he had a brief meeting with Deniz Göktaş at the Çağlayan Courthouse.
According to the post, Hacır asked Kılıçdaroğlu whether Göktaş had told him to "let go of the CHP." Kılıçdaroğlu said that no such expression was used, either directly or indirectly. It was also reported that the comedian expressed his sadness over his arrest.
NEW STATEMENT FROM LAWYERS AFTER PRISON VISIT
As the debates continued, a new statement was issued by Deniz Göktaş's lawyers.
The lawyers recalled that Barış Pehlivan had shared two pieces of information with the public based on his conversation with Deniz Göktaş's lawyer in a social media post, one being "They will not be able to steal our joy" and the other being the statement that he told Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu to "let go of the CHP."
The statement noted that following this post, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu's advisor and the CHP's official social media account denied the expression in question.
LAWYERS: GÖKTAŞ CONFIRMED HIS WORDS
The lawyers later announced that they had asked the comedian about this issue directly during their meeting with Deniz Göktaş at Karatepe Prison.
The statement indicated that Göktaş confirmed during the prison visit that he had told Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu to "let go of the CHP," and included the following expression:
"According to information conveyed to the public through his lawyers who visited Deniz Göktaş at Karatepe Prison, where he is currently being held, Göktaş confirmed that he told Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu to 'let go of the CHP'."
