Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, the former Chairman of the Republican People's Party (CHP), delivered striking messages regarding the current agenda during a television program he attended.
Speaking on KRT TV, Kılıçdaroğlu commented on the DEM Party-İmralı talks that began after a call from MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, stating: "A terrorist organization will only lay down its arms if imperial powers demand it. Let us accept this reality. Which countries have been supplying and supporting the terrorist organization until today? They will not lay down their arms unless imperial powers say 'Lay down your arms'."
Kılıçdaroğlu noted the following on the subject:
"We all know the costs that these pains have forced us to pay. Many people have lost their lives. Let us no longer speak of pain in this geography. Yes, we are in favor of peace, but do you know how this will happen? Do you want peace? It is irrational not to want it. Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu wants there to be peace and tranquility in this country. We need to do this together. They should not just tell us things with empty words. A lot has been said until today. Those who want peace must not have personal interests. They must say, 'We are doing this for our country.' Principles and goals must be set. Who wouldn't want peace?
You are making a call. Saying 'Let's make peace.' Well, go ahead and do it; is there anyone stopping you? If you are truly sincere, there is Selahattin Demirtaş, who is in favor of civil politics and is still being held in prison. Why is he in prison? He says, 'I am in favor of civil politics, I want peace in my country'; what more do you want? Why are you ignoring Mr. Selahattin?
"YOU HAVE TO CONSIDER ALL ACTORS"
You have to consider all the actors in the region. Another important actor is Iran. Maps are being published. They want to tear Turkey away from the modern world and turn it into a Middle Eastern country. Turkey needs to formulate a policy accordingly. We call this state wisdom. They are talking; let them resolve it. We do not know what statement was made to the public. As a citizen, I would want there to be peace in my country; why wouldn't I? The process is not the kind that can be solved by the will of a single country."
KILIÇDAROĞLU'S CRITICISM OF THE PRIMARY ELECTION DECISION
Kılıçdaroğlu also spoke about the CHP's decision to hold a primary election to determine its presidential candidate.
Emphasizing that it is too early to determine a candidate, Kılıçdaroğlu continued:
"Who will choose the candidate? The Parliamentary Group will choose. Was this meeting held in the Parliamentary Group? Why is it not being done? First, you need to convene the group of this party. Why are you not convening this group? Since its foundation, even Mustafa Kemal Atatürk was criticized in parliament. Criticism is actually very valuable. The problem here is this; let's say two candidates are determined, what will they say?
There is still a long time until the presidential candidate is determined. Why are we in such a hurry? The country is in a state of crisis. We have left these aside and are asking who will be the presidential candidate. When the time and place come, a candidate will be determined, and we will all go and support them. Why are we dividing the party now? Let's say we held a poll. Candidates emerged; they will say, 'Don't vote for them, vote for me.' What will you do when you become a candidate? None of it is clear. First, you will set the project and the goal. The party will set this. The party will determine the policy. When the candidates are selected, they will first explain to their own party members what they will do and how. If the party determines the candidate, we will support them when the time and place come. It is that simple. Of course, we will support them; the party is our party."
