IYI Party Spokesperson and Ankara MP Kürşad Zorlu has resigned from the IYI Party. Following Zorlu's decision to resign, the number of IYI Party deputies in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) has fallen to 29.
Making a statement via his social media account, Zorlu said, "At this point, I have sadly observed that the opportunity to move forward in line with a common goal that would carry this hope into the future has been lost. In this unavoidable situation, it is time for me, as a son of this country whose compass always points to his nation, to set out on the road once again."
The full text of Zorlu's resignation letter is as follows:
"TO THE PUBLIC
Time to Say Goodbye…
To the high attention of my noble nation; with my loyalty to our ancient values and the principle that 'If the subject is the homeland, the rest is detail,' I have viewed politics until today not merely as a duty, but as a field of responsibility and service for the bright future of our nation. With this goal and consciousness, I accepted the invitation and joined the IYI Party family on November 19, 2022. I carried out the duties assigned to me by my party with high effort and pride in a difficult political atmosphere.
As is known, with the 5th Extraordinary Congress we held on April 27, 2024, our party embarked on a journey of change, hoping that its course would be bright. In the more than 8 months that have passed, I have worked with all my might to put forth an effort worthy of the honorable deputy badge that my nation pinned to my lapel. However, at this point, I have sadly observed that the opportunity to move forward in line with a common goal that would carry this hope into the future has been lost. In this unavoidable situation, it is time for me, as a son of this country whose compass always points to his nation, to set out on the road once again.
As of today, I am ending my official ties with the IYI PARTY, of which I was a member. I sincerely thank my colleagues with whom I fought together under this roof and the hardworking members of our organization who did not withhold their support from me. My greatest wish is that this decision I have made does not harm the spirit of unity we displayed in the past, nor open the door to polemics. Just as I have until today, I will continue to work with determination and resolve to serve my country from now on as well.
With love and respect."
