Lawsuits to annul CHP conventions merged: May 26 is decision day

The debate over conventions in the CHP shows no signs of ending. The lawsuit filed for the annulment of the CHP's 38th Ordinary Convention has been merged with the lawsuit filed for the annulment of the 21st Extraordinary Convention. The date for both cases to be heard together has been set for Monday, May 26.
The CHP administration had decided to hold an extraordinary convention following claims that the "change" convention, where Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu lost and Özgür Özel became the CHP Chairman, would be annulled.
At the Extraordinary Convention held on April 6, 2025, Özgür Özel was re-elected as chairman.
Following this convention, two delegates, Yılmaz Özkanat and Hatip Karaaslan, applied to the court for the annulment of the CHP's 21st Extraordinary Convention. The petition requested the "precautionary suspension of Chairman Özgür Özel, members of the Central Executive Board, members of the Party Assembly, and members of the High Disciplinary Board from their duties."
The court decided to merge the case regarding the 21st Extraordinary Convention with the case regarding the 38th Ordinary Convention.
