Social media posts by AKP members continue to draw backlash. Following İzmir MP Şebnem Bursalı’s lobster photo, another AKP figure told citizens, "Move aside, the hungry Turks are returning from vacation."
Ekrem Yavaş, the former AKP mayor of the Sındırgı district in Balıkesir, had been a candidate for re-election in the March 31 local elections. In the election, CHP candidate Serkan Sak was elected mayor, receiving 52.57 percent of the votes. AKP candidate Yavaş remained at 40.16 percent, losing by a margin of 3,000 votes.
Yavaş, whose performance was not approved by the citizens, took his frustration over losing the election out on the public. On his social media account, Yavaş shared a post about the traffic density on the roads during the return from the holiday, with the caption "Move aside, the hungry Turks are returning from vacation." Yavaş deleted his post following the backlash.
