Maçoğlu was nominated by TKP: TİP will also field a candidate in Kadıköy
Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP) Chairman Erkan Baş stated that the issue of Maçoğlu's candidacy was never brought to them. TİP will also field a separate candidate for the Kadıköy Mayoralty.

Tunceli Mayor Fatih Mehmet Maçoğlu had been announced as the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) candidate for Mayor of Kadıköy.
Duvar columnist Atilla Özsever wrote that TİP Chairman Erkan Baş told him that the matter had not been brought to him.
The relevant section from Özsever's article is as follows:
"Erkan Baş noted, 'We were not asked anything. Our opinion was not even sought out of courtesy via a phone call. They did the same thing previously for the Defne district mayoralty in Hatay. They want to get ahead of things; we are not against Maçoğlu, but what they are doing is not elegant at all.'"
TİP Chairman Baş stated in light of these developments, "We will also field our own candidate in Kadıköy. We will discuss and determine our candidates at the Party Assembly meeting this weekend."
Regarding their local election strategy, Erkan Baş said, "In places where the AKP has no chance of winning, we can engage in a democratic race and field our own candidates. In places where the AKP is strong, we will evaluate the situation and adopt a different stance."
