Mansur Yavaş on his candidacy: 'With issues like poverty and refugees...'

Volkan Gültekin, former advisor to Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş, appeared on the "Yeni Bir Sabah" program on Halk TV today to answer questions from journalist İsmail Küçükkaya.

Stating that he had called Yavaş yesterday before going on air to get his views, Gültekin relayed what Yavaş had told him.

Regarding the discussions about his presidential candidacy, Gültekin stated that Yavaş said, ''While our country is experiencing major problems in many areas, primarily the economy, as well as health, education, the refugee issue, family policies, and social injustices, I do not find it right that the debate over 'who will be the CHP's candidate' takes place every evening. For me, this topic is closed for now. Until the day comes when it needs to be discussed, we will focus solely on serving the people of Ankara.''

WITH EDUCATION AND THE REFUGEE ISSUE...

Gültekin, who stated that he spoke with Yavaş on the phone, relayed the following:

‘While our country is experiencing major problems in many areas, primarily the economy, as well as health, education, the refugee issue, family policies, and social injustices, I do not find it right that the debate over 'who will be the CHP's candidate' takes place every evening. For me, this topic is closed for now. Until the day comes when it needs to be discussed, we will focus solely on serving the people of Ankara.’ He continued, ‘My statement at the party congress was essentially a call for this fire of discord to be extinguished.’ I have said before that he is a clear person; for him, it does not matter where he is. He expresses his feelings directly. Actually, this style of politics has caught on a bit with the public. At first, some segments had difficulty getting used to it. He said it there on the microphone. He tweeted here as well. The person he tweeted about was a friend of 30 years. The person he spoke to on the microphone was in an environment with CHP mayors and the Chairman. But he does not give up on that clarity; he has such a style.

I continue, ‘If anyone from my circle acts wrongly, even if unintentionally, I intervene immediately. I have a different understanding of politics; I like to live everything in front of the public eye and in a transparent manner. Whether it is someone close to me or someone else, this will not change. Those who criticize the post I made on this subject will surely get used to this style of politics too.’

"I WILL BE THE BIGGEST SUPPORTER OF IMAMOĞLU IN HIS LEGAL STRUGGLE”

There is also a note here regarding Mr. Ekrem İmamoğlu. He says, ‘The case against Ekrem İmamoğlu is a political case. Even the filing of the case was not right. If an unlawful decision is made, I will be the biggest supporter of Mr. Ekrem İmamoğlu in his legal struggle. This situation is absolutely unacceptable.’ As you may recall, when the case was first filed, yes, Ms. Meral Akşener had gone, but the first Mayor to go to his side from out of town, from Ankara, was Mansur Yavaş. We infer that he would display such an attitude again.

"WE WILL NOT ALLOW THE AGENDA TO BE MANIPULATED”

And finally, he summarized, saying, ‘We are working in harmony both at our Headquarters and with Mayor Ekrem. Our competition can only be in the race to serve. We will be careful about other matters and will not allow fuel to be added to the fire of discord. We will not allow the agenda to be manipulated for political calculations, no matter who does it.’”
