Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş made significant statements while attending the Local Reform Meetings, organized by the Local Reform Initiative Association with the support of the Ankara City Council.
In his remarks in Ankara, Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş leveled harsh criticisms at the justice system. Referring to the young people currently in detention for participating in demonstrations held to support Ekrem İmamoğlu, Yavaş argued that the justice system is biased.
Yavaş stated, "The youth have been in detention since May 19. What did they do? They took to the streets to support Ekrem İmamoğlu and exercised their democratic rights. Yet, you are keeping them in detention."
REACTION TO ROK
Yavaş also criticized the release of Rasim Ozan Kütahyalı, who had claimed that a trustee would be appointed to the CHP and was detained due to these statements. "You release someone who says a trustee should be appointed to the CHP. This person is targeting democracy and the will of the people, yet the judiciary does nothing. The youth are inside, and you are protecting the one who talks about trustees. What kind of understanding of justice is this?" he said.
Yavaş stated that justice must be re-established in Turkey, adding, "These injustices must end. It is the duty of all of us to ensure the rule of law."
