Mansur Yavaş responds to Bahçeli's call for Öcalan to speak in Parliament: 'He cannot speak under the roof of our Veteran Parliament'

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş responded to the statements made by MHP leader Bahçeli regarding PKK leader Öcalan. Yavaş stated, "The path to peace in this country is absolutely not to have the terrorist leader speak under the roof of our Veteran Parliament."

Politics is facing a new agenda. MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, in his statement at his party's group meeting, said regarding PKK leader Öcalan: "If the isolation of the terrorist leader is lifted, let him come and speak at the DEM Party group meeting in the TBMM. Let him declare that terrorism has completely ended and the organization has been disbanded. If he shows this resolve and determination, the path should be opened wide for legal regulations regarding the use of the right to hope and for him to benefit from it. Let the address extend from Imralı to DEM, not Kandil or Edirne, and let this heavy and historical terror problem be completely removed from the country's agenda. I challenge you, we are ready for this."

These statements by Bahçeli fell like a bombshell on the agenda.

RESPONSE FROM DEM TO BAHÇELİ'S CALL

Following MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, DEM Party Co-Chair Tülay Hatimoğulları, who made statements at her party's group meeting, supported Bahçeli and used the following expressions:

"The interlocutor of the Kurdish issue in Turkey is Abdullah Öcalan. If there is to be a beginning, the isolation must be lifted immediately. We are ready to take initiative for an honorable peace."

"We have been struggling for years for the isolation on Öcalan to be lifted. It must definitely be lifted. We say let him come and speak physically. Let us all see what he says. Steps must be taken urgently on this matter without wasting time. I underline once again that we, as the DEM Party, are ready to do whatever is necessary on this issue."

SHARP REACTION FROM MANSUR YAVAŞ

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş reacted sharply to Bahçeli's statements on his social media account.

In his statement, Yavaş said, "Our greatest wish is for peace and tranquility to prevail in this country. But the way to achieve this is absolutely not to have the terrorist leader speak under the roof of our Veteran Parliament. Neither the nation nor history will forgive this."
