As the local elections approach, debates over alliances continue within the opposition front.

A surprise development has occurred in the İYİ Party, which has decided to field candidates in all 81 provinces. İYİ Party leader Meral Akşener met with Sinan Aygün, Cemil Çiçek, and Abdülkadir Aksu at the Togo Towers in Ankara.

According to a report by Eray Görgülü from T24, a meeting was organized at the Togo Towers, which are owned by former Ankara Chamber of Commerce (ATO) President and former CHP MP Sinan Aygün, and for which the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality had issued a demolition order.

While former Parliament Speaker and AKP politician Cemil Çiçek and former Interior Minister Abdülkadir Aksu were at the Togo Towers, İYİ Party Chair Meral Akşener wanted to visit Aygün. While Akşener met with these two individuals at the Togo Towers, İYİ Party Deputy Chair Oktay Vural, who is a former MHP member, also attended the visit.

OFFERED CANDIDACY

It was learned that the Ankara Metropolitan Mayor candidate that the İYİ Party will field in the local elections was also brought up during this meeting, which stirred the Ankara political scene. According to the allegations, it was stated that Akşener offered Aygün the Metropolitan Mayoral candidacy, but Aygün did not accept this offer.

On the other hand, the demolition order for the Togo Towers, owned by Aygün, by the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality was issued under the administration of Mansur Yavaş.

STATEMENT FROM THE İYİ PARTY

Following the emergence of the meeting, the following statement was made by the İYİ Party today:

“A conversation meeting that our Chair, Ms. Meral Akşener, attended in Ankara yesterday has been brought to the agenda in a speculative manner by some media outlets. During our Chair's period of illness, Mr. Çiçek and Mr. Aksu called by phone to convey their get-well wishes, and a desire to meet was expressed during that conversation. In the conversation that took place upon invitation, hosted by Mr. Sinan Aygün with the participation of Mr. Cemil Çiçek, Mr. Abdülkadir Aksu, and Mr. Oktay Vural, the subject of candidacy for the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality was never brought up, contrary to what has been alleged. The meeting in question was not a secret meeting, nor did it have a secret agenda.”
