Message from Özgür Özel regarding Gülistan Doku

Stating that the fate of Gülistan Doku must be clarified as soon as possible, Özel said, "The demand for justice from her grieving family must be met."

Özel made the following post:

MISSING FOR 4 YEARS

Gülistan Doku, a second-year student in the Child Development Department at Munzur University, has not been heard from since she left her dormitory on January 5, 2020.

Her family filed a missing person report with the Provincial Police Department on January 6. Security forces tracking her mobile phone signals to locate Doku determined that she boarded a university vehicle at the minibus stop in Atatürk District at 11:29 AM.

Despite examinations of the City Security Management System cameras along the route, it could not be determined where Doku got off the vehicle. At the end of the investigations, it was determined that Gülistan Doku's mobile phone last signaled at the Sarı Saltuk Viaduct at the Uzunçayır Dam Lake. Footage said to show Gülistan Doku was also captured by the camera of a vehicle passing over the viaduct.

Under the coordination of the then-Tunceli Governor Tuncay Sonel, search efforts in the Uzunçayır Dam Lake were conducted by 542 personnel, 88 vehicles, 38 boats, 10 ROV devices, 6 drones, 4 sonars, and 3 search dogs, consisting of the AFAD Presidency, Naval Forces Command, General Directorate of Security, Gendarmerie General Command, metropolitan municipalities of Ankara, Denizli, Diyarbakır, Istanbul, Izmir, Konya, Malatya, Manisa, and Kahramanmaraş, as well as non-governmental organizations, universities, and volunteers. The efforts were terminated after no trace of Doku was found.

FORMER BOYFRIEND WAS DETAINED

In the investigation conducted by the Tunceli Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, her boyfriend, Russia-born Zeinal A., who was stated to be the last person she met before she went missing, was detained in the Alanya district of Antalya approximately 2 years later. After a 4-hour statement, Zeinal A. was released under judicial control and a travel ban was imposed on him.

A lawsuit was also filed against Zeinal A.'s father, E.Y., on the grounds that he disclosed personal information about Doku that should have remained confidential on social media.

The court sentenced E.Y. to 2.5 years in prison for obtaining and disseminating personal data. Furthermore, in the examinations and research conducted on social media accounts, it was determined that E.Y. had also used positive expressions on social media regarding police officer İsmail Hakkı Saraçoğlu, who martyred Rize Police Chief Altuğ Verdi in 2018.

Upon the recommendation of the Tunceli Governorship, Zeinal A.'s father, E.Y., was dismissed from the police profession by the Ministry of Interior.
