Message from Özgür Özel to Erdoğan: 'We will make him regret it'

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel attended the opening of the Filiz Akın Girls' Dormitory, which was opened by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality in Kadıköy.

During the opening, a letter sent by the imprisoned IMM President and presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu was read. Drawing attention to the message İmamoğlu sent from Silivri, Özel said, 'The elected mayor of Istanbul, our companion, and our presidential candidate just spoke to us here from his 16-square-meter cell in Silivri.'

'NOT BUILDING NURSERIES AND DORMITORIES IS A POLITICAL CHOICE OF THE AKP'

Reminding that there were no nurseries or student dormitories in Istanbul during the AKP era, Özel criticized the government with harsh words:

'How many nurseries and how many student dormitories were there in Istanbul before Ekrem President? The answer is zero. This is not a coincidence, nor can it be explained by economic reasons. It is extremely political. If a dormitory is not being built, it is to pave the way for religious community dorms. Can TOKİ build every kind of bridge and construction, but not a dormitory? This decision is entirely political.'

Criticizing the mentality that prevents women from participating in social life, Özel said, 'The mentality that sees women only as those who give birth and look after children at home does not build nurseries. Conversely, the CHP provides equal opportunity with free nurseries and dormitories.'

'OUR PRESIDENT'S FIRST INSTRUCTION WILL BE FOR REPUBLIC DORMITORIES'

The CHP leader stated that under his party's government, the President's first instruction would be given to TOKİ, and said the following:

"Within one year, Republic Dormitories sufficient for all students will be built. With the state's determination, the students' housing problem will be solved at its root."

"THE AKP'S SCHOLARSHIP IS NOT EVEN WORTH A QUARTER GOLD COIN"

Criticizing the KYK scholarships provided to students, Özel said, "The 450 lira scholarship given by Bülent Ecevit was worth 1.5 quarter gold coins. The 3,000 lira given today is not even worth half a quarter gold coin. If the same ratio had been maintained, the scholarship would be 11,500 lira. In the past, three students would combine their scholarships to rent a house; today, you cannot even get into a chicken coop for 9,000 lira."

"OPENINGS AND PROTESTS WILL CONTINUE"

Özel reminded that the openings of projects by CHP municipalities have been delayed for various reasons. Recalling processes such as the Saraçhane resistance and the Maltepe rally, Özel announced that they would continue with openings and protests from now on.

"WE WILL DEFEAT ERDOĞAN ONCE AGAIN"

In the harshest part of his speech, Özel addressed İmamoğlu's detention, saying, "President Ekrem has a crime that is not even written in the Turkish Penal Code: defeating Tayyip Erdoğan multiple times. That is why he is being kept inside. He is inside because he is determined to commit this 'crime' that he has committed four times in a row, one more time."
