CHP Parliamentary Group Chairman Özgür Özel gave striking messages regarding the path his party will follow during a public meeting he attended in Mustafapaşa, a town in the Ürgüp district of Nevşehir, ahead of the elections to be held on June 7.
In his speech, Özel stated, "The march in our party is for justice, it is to bring the ballot box to the party, but the main march is to bring the ballot box to Turkey and to save Turkey."
Stating that the future of young people is at the center of the struggle, Özel said, "The issue is no longer sacrificing the future of young people for someone else's own calculations, but sacrificing ourselves if necessary for the nation's account, for the young people's account."
Özel continued his message by saying, "I will give my head if necessary with my friends, but I will not bow my head. We are determined to march drop by drop, village by village, town by town, city by city, to march to power."
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was removed from office after being arrested, also supported Özel's statements on his X account. Addressing the youth, İmamoğlu posted, "This march is the march of justice, merit, freedom, and the future."
In his message, İmamoğlu used the phrase "our chairman" for Özgür Özel and called for walking "all together."
The dual structure in the CHP, where Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu returned to the chairmanship following the "precautionary absolute nullity" decision in the lawsuit regarding the party conventions, and Özgür Özel serves as the Parliamentary Group Chairman, continues to be debated.
In his response to a question regarding Kılıçdaroğlu's attendance at the CHP Group Meeting to be held on June 9, Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş stated that there is no obstacle in terms of legislation. Kurtulmuş said, "The Chairman of the Republican People's Party or the chairman of any party can also make a speech at their own party's group meeting."
