The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Press Crimes Investigation Bureau has launched an ex officio investigation into journalists İsmail Saymaz and Fatih Altaylı on charges of “publicly disseminating misleading information.”

It was stated that the investigation concerns statements made by Saymaz on Halk TV and an article published by Altaylı on his own website.

SUPPORT AND CRIMINAL COMPLAINT FROM MHP

MHP Deputy Chairman in charge of Media, Communication and Digital Channels İsmail Özdemir stated that they support the investigation. In a statement on the social media platform X, Özdemir used the following expressions:

"The investigation launched following the findings and public notification by the Presidential Communications Directorate is a positive and respectable development in terms of combating disinformation. As the Nationalist Movement Party, we are following the slander and false publications regarding our Chairman, our party, and our fellow party members with attention and diligence."

Expressing that the MHP has also taken action, Özdemir said, "We will hold those who act with lies and slander accountable before the law. In this context, we are also filing a criminal complaint against the media organizations where the broadcasts involving Fatih Altaylı and İsmail Saymaz were aired."

WHAT DID SAYMAZ AND ALTAYLI SAY?

The first of the statements that came to the fore within the scope of the investigation was the commentary made by İsmail Saymaz on the “Rota” program broadcast on Halk TV. In the program, Saymaz claimed regarding the 3 deputies who were forced to resign from the MHP, “President Erdoğan showed Bahçeli some footage regarding the MHP deputies.”

Fatih Altaylı, on the other hand, evaluated the arrest of former AKUT President Nasuh Mahruki due to his criticisms of the Supreme Election Council in his article titled “Those who do not fear the wreckage do not fear prison” published on his website.
