Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chairman Devlet Bahçeli has announced the reason behind MHP Deputy Chairman Izzet Ulvi Yönter's decision to step down from his post.
Emphasizing that Yönter's resignation was not due to any resentment or a departure from the party, Bahçeli stated, "He requested to resign in order to focus on his academic career studies." Noting that Yönter asked for permission to further advance the doctoral degree he has earned, Bahçeli said, "I wish him success in his academic career."
DECISION TO TURN TO AN ACADEMIC CAREER
Bahçeli explained Yönter's decision as a desire to focus on his academic work and stated that the resignation was not the result of any hurt feelings or dispute. Stating, "A valuable brother of ours will take on this responsibility in a short time," Bahçeli expressed his hope that everything would be for the best during this transition process within the party.
Before stepping down from his post, Izzet Ulvi Yönter had made a noteworthy post on his social media account. Yönter had used the expressions, "Agent who has infiltrated the MHP, we are watching you from every angle. What do you know about honesty! Don't worry, we will definitely settle scores with you... Your money won't work either, you scheming scoundrel..." When this message was reshared by MHP Deputy Chairman Semih Yalçın, the controversy intensified. In some comments, it was suggested that Yönter's words were directed at Bahçeli's chief advisor, Eyyup Yıldız.
Semih Yalçın published this post by Yönter on his own social media account but later removed the content. It was observed that other posts on Yalçın's account containing support for Yönter remained. This development raised questions about how Yönter's resignation might affect internal balances within the party.
A SIMILAR SITUATION OCCURRED FOR SINAN ATEŞ
Yönter's resignation brought to mind the situation of Sinan Ateş, who left his post as Chairman of the Ülkü Ocakları (Idealist Hearths) in 2020. It had been announced that Sinan Ateş had left his post in order to focus on his academic career.
