MHP's Feti Yıldız makes statement on the 'right to hope'

MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli is the architect of the second opening process, which the government has named a 'Terror-Free Turkey,' and the report drafting phase of the National Solidarity, Brotherhood and Democracy Commission, established in the TBMM, is currently underway.

MHP Deputy Chairman Feti Yıldız made statements to journalists before the commission meeting.

When asked, 'Will there be a unanimous decision?', Yıldız replied, "We want it, but it might not happen."

Speaking on the issue of the 'right to hope'—a term raised regarding PKK terrorist organization leader Abdullah Öcalan—Yıldız said, "Let us discuss it inside with our friends. Even if it is not included as a heading, it will be included in terms of content through ECHR rulings."

CHP Group Deputy Chairman Murat Emir, when asked about their proposals, stated: "It is not possible for me to give many details, but there are some shortcomings, some excesses, and issues we have criticisms about regarding the mindset of the corrections. Of course, other parties will also have, and have had, similar criticisms and approaches. We will evaluate them all together. Of course, what is important here is to produce a joint commission report with a common mind. Each party has actually already set out its own position with the proposal reports it previously submitted to the commission. Each party stands where it stands. However, we are striving and taking care to ensure that this report is one that will put a democratization perspective before Turkey through a consensus, clearly define the legal steps that need to be taken to permanently end terrorism, and be a report that everyone will embrace."

Emir spoke as follows:

"We have been saying for a long time that the report needs to be accelerated, that the process has already dragged on too long, that our people's eyes are primarily on the report but ultimately on the laws that will emerge from the parliament, and that the urgent steps that need to be taken should no longer be delayed. As is known, right at the very beginning of this process, we said that confidence-building measures should be taken and confidence-building steps should be implemented."

Upon being reminded of the 'right to hope' debate, Emir said, "Everyone's mind and thoughts must be clear on this matter. The purpose of this commission is to build an environment of social peace that will increase democratization and rule of law standards in Turkey and permanently end terrorism. Therefore, many headings related to democratization and the rule of law will be here. This will include provisions related to execution, the Anti-Terror Law, our proposals within the Turkish Penal Code, and many proposals that will raise the standards of our democracy, such as the Press Law and the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations.

But it must be known that there will be no regulation or proposal here for one person or one group. We want to raise the total democracy standard of all of Turkey, and every proposal we make will be for 86 million people. There will be no reference or proposal specific to an individual."
