MHP's Feti Yıldız opposed arrest decisions with these words

MHP Deputy Chairman Feti Yıldız made important assessments regarding arrest decisions in statements he made on social media. Yıldız said that arrest is a serious procedure that restricts personal freedom and should only be applied as a temporary measure.

'JUSTICE MUST BE REALIZED'

Stating that justice is not a discourse but an action that must be realized in practice, Yıldız used the expressions, "Justice must be realized, and it must be seen that it has been realized." These statements served as an important warning at a time when social sensitivity regarding judicial and arrest decisions is increasing.

Emphasizing that arrest decisions are a measure that limits individuals' rights to freedom and security and should be applied very carefully, Yıldız continued his words as follows: "Arrest is not a punishment. It is a tool that should be resorted to in order to ensure that the material truth is reached. However, this does not mean that a conviction decision about a person is given in advance."

Stating that keeping prisoners with severe illnesses, disabilities, and the elderly in prison is contrary to the rule of law and democracy, Yıldız said, "Those with severe illnesses cannot be treated under prison conditions. In a democratic state of law, it is unacceptable for such individuals to be kept in prison continuously."

Giving a historical example, Feti Yıldız explained the importance of justice in practice as follows: "In the letter written by Caliph Umar to Emir Musa, whom he appointed as the governor of Basra, it is emphasized that a right that is not applied and a judgment that is not executed will not provide any benefit. The requirement of justice must be fulfilled not only by speaking but also by action."
