Minister Tunç makes statement on 'new constitution'

Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç, who was in Düzce for a series of meetings, met with party members at the AK Party Provincial Headquarters. Minister Tunç made statements to journalists there.

"HUMANITY IS ALWAYS AT THE CENTER OF OUR POLITICS"

Touching upon the work on a new constitution, Minister Tunç said, "We are doing our best to maximize the satisfaction of our citizens with judicial services and to maximize our citizens' trust in justice regarding the realization of justice. The AK Party has been in power for 22 years. Turkey has developed and progressed in every field over the past 22 years. No one can deny this. Of course, humanity is always at the center of our politics. We will continue to say, 'Let the individual live so that the state may live.' We will continue our efforts to empower our people in every field, from social policies to culture, from justice to security, and to education. Our people must be strong so that the family can be strong, and the family must be strong so that society can be strong. With stable development moves, we will continue our efforts to develop every point in the 81 provinces of our country without slowing down."

"OUR GOAL IS A NEW, DEMOCRATIC, CIVILIAN CONSTITUTION"

Stating that they have removed the obstacles in front of fundamental rights and freedoms one by one, Yılmaz Tunç said,

"We have implemented important reforms that are considered revolutionary. We have expanded the means of seeking rights through legislative changes and constitutional amendments. Therefore, we will continue on our path without compromising our reformist approach. We have always continued our struggle to achieve a high-standard democracy by further strengthening our democracy. With your support, we have buried the coup-plotting mentality in history. We realized the important reforms we made in the constitution thanks to our nation so that this country's democracy could be stronger. We carried out structural reforms and made efforts to build a democracy resilient against coups.

We ensured that the coup plotters of the past were brought to justice. We carried out constitutional amendments and ensured that they were held accountable in the presence of the nation. Our goal from now on is, of course, a new, democratic, and civilian constitution. Hopefully, there are efforts initiated in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). The work currently initiated by our Speaker of the Parliament and his meetings with political parties are ongoing. Our hope is that we can achieve this consensus in our parliament, and our country will have a democratic, civilian, and participatory constitution at the beginning of the Century of Turkey. We have signed reforms that are considered silent revolutions, reducing the tutelary spirit in our constitution through important reforms and the provision of judicial unity, which we have carried out in the field of justice to date. However, our constitution is a coup constitution.

The 1982 constitution is a constitution written by coup plotters; it is not a democratic constitution. Although important changes have been made over time with numerous amendments to eliminate that tutelary spirit and coup-plotting mentality, it has not been possible to completely eliminate the tutelary spirit. If we want there to be no more interference with democracy in our country and for the flag of national will not to fall to the ground, then I hope a new constitution-making process will begin with a civilian, participatory spirit in the TBMM for a high-standard democracy, taking into account the views of all political parties and the views of civil society organizations outside, and that we will succeed in this. By paying our debt to our nation, we will have a new, democratic, and civilian constitution at the beginning of the Century of Turkey," he said.
