MAK Consulting Chairman of the Board Mehmet Ali Kulat has brought a striking claim to the agenda regarding the transition of mayors to the AKP.
Speaking on MK Haber TV, Kulat claimed that on August 14, the 25th anniversary of the AKP's founding, more than 30 mayors, including 3 metropolitan mayors, are in line to join the party.
Kulat stated that this number is not limited to metropolitan areas, arguing that town, district, provincial, and metropolitan mayors are included in this scope. However, he also said that it has not yet been clarified whether these names will be definitively accepted by the AKP.
Kulat's statements came while he was responding to allegations regarding his meeting with Tuzla Mayor Atty. Eren Ali Bingöl in Ankara. Kulat explained that the meeting was not a "mysterious" encounter, and that Bingöl had come to Ankara for party-related business and had called him to request a meeting.
Stating that Bingöl was accompanied by his wife and a few other people, Kulat expressed that the meeting took place in the afternoon in the garden of a venue. Saying that a purely technical issue was discussed during the meeting, Kulat stated that Bingöl did not say anything to him about switching to the AKP.
Kulat said, "If he had asked about wanting to join the AK Party, I would have shared my opinion," and did not directly confirm the transition allegations regarding the Tuzla Mayor.
