In the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), the HEDEP Group submitted a proposal to prioritize the motion for the investigation of all aspects of the Tahir Elçi murder and to discuss it today at the TBMM General Assembly.

"LET US SAY YES TO THE MOTION WE SUBMITTED TODAY"

Taking the floor regarding the proposal to prioritize the motion, HEDEP Mersin Deputy Ali Bozan stated the following:

“Tahir Elçi was murdered by dirty hands. He left us with a longing for peace. The AKP government has still not been able to uncover the perpetrators of a massacre committed in front of cameras exactly eight years ago. Is the AKP government really this incompetent? No, it is not. There is a statement made by the Prime Minister of that period, Mr. Ahmet Davutoğlu, during his visit to Amed on September 12, 2021. He said, 'Tahir Elçi fell victim to a political murder.' Is this not a political confession? Yes, it is exactly a political confession. Who killed dear Tahir Elçi? We expect you to say yes to our motion today to find the answer to this very question. If we truly have a conscience, if we truly want the truth to be revealed, if we truly want the missing 12-second police camera footage to be found, let us say yes to the motion we submitted today.”

"IT IS ONE OF THE MURDERS THAT PREPARED THE COUNTRY FOR COUP CONDITIONS"

Speaking on the proposal on behalf of the CHP Group, Kars Deputy İnan Akgün Alp said:

“To correctly evaluate the results and causes of the Tahir Elçi murder, we must correctly evaluate the year 2015. In 2015, a process took place that began with the murder of Fırat Çakıroğlu at Ege University and ended with the killing of Tahir Elçi in November. During this year of 2015, peace was targeted, and 7 months after Tahir Elçi's death, a coup took place in this country. The Train Station Massacre occurred, and bombs were dropped on our people who wanted peace in Suruç. Our police officers were murdered in Ceylanpınar to end the peace process. You have to consider all political murders together with their consequences. We certainly do not evaluate the Tahir Elçi murder merely as a crime of homicide. It is one of the murders that prepared the country for coup conditions.”

The motion was rejected by the votes of AKP and MHP deputies.
